Wayne E. Muehlberger Obituary

Wayne E. Muehlberger passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17th, 2026, at the age of 78.


While attending Ball High School, Wayne worked for Seawall Drug Store, and Warehouse Food store. After graduation in 1968, Wayne worked for Weingarten Grocery Store in the produce department until he was drafted into the Army in 1971. He proudly served as an MP (Military Policeman), achieving the rank of Specialist-4, guarding the Strategic Missile Defense sites in Alaska. He was honorably discharged, and returned home to Galveston to take care of his elderly parents.


Wayne graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Services, obtaining his degree in Mortuary Sciences. He became a licensed funeral director, and worked at J. Levy & Bros Funeral Home and Crowder Funeral Home. After that, Wayne went to work for UTMB in the Office of Decedent Affairs, and concluded his career in the Department of Histology.


Wayne wanted to express his sincerest appreciation to the Doctors, nurses and staff at UTMB, along with the Physical Rehabilitation personnel who diligently worked to provide care for him. He especially wanted to thank his long-time PCP, Dr. Bernard Karnath for the personalized care that he received from him for decades.


Wayne is preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Terry, his parents, Louise and Reinhardt Muehlberger, his brothers, Reverand Milton Muehlberger (Donna), Elmer (Patsy), Floyd (Joan), his sisters, Dorothy Sanders (Jim), Virginia Muehlberger, niece Lennie Sellers and nephew, Patrick Muehlberger.


He is survived by his brother Howard (Lidia), sister, Joyce Lidiak (Max), sister-in-law, Linda and nieces and nephews: Bill Muehlberger (Jo Ann), Laura Gilbert (Todd), Michael Muehlberger (Lisa), Eric Muehlberger (Brenda), Stella Heidman (Seth), Sharon Reitmeyer (Albert), Jaime Herring (Tucker), and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.


Visitation will be at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 27th at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX. The service will be officiated by Reverand Richard Rhodes, of First Lutheran Church in Galveston, TX.
