Wayne Norris Cox

Wayne Norris, Cox, age 80, of Galveston, Texas passed from this life on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He was born on July 30, 1942 in Galveston, Texas.  

Wayne graduated from Ball High School, Sam Houston State and the University of Texas in Austin. He served two years with the U.S. Army in Germany. After college, Wayne taught history at Texas Tech in Lubbock and then moved to Abilene to work for the Texas State Department of Human Services inspecting nursing homes. He moved back to Galveston in July 2008-just in time to greet Hurricane Ike. 

Wayne’s passions in life were history, art, traveling and collecting unique items. His greatest love was his family and he spent every 5 years organizing a family reunion. This would be our year. He is sadly missed. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy T. Sr and Evelyn Cox; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy T, Jr and Hilda Cox and Carroll J. and Ruth Cox; nephews Russell Cox and Michael Wolff. 

Wayne is survived by his twin sister, Charlene and brother-in-law Bruce Ellsworth; nephews Tommy (Dawn) Cox and Ray Cox; nieces Katherine Pitcher, Amy Smith, Mary Jo Cox and Denise Wolff. 

He is especially missed grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Silas and Cordelia Pitcher, Griffin Pitcher and Jaxson and Zachary Smith; special cousins, Margaret and Larry Williams, Deb and AG Wentzel, Susan Carroll and Bill Tacquard. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M., with Tommy Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12 Noon. 

The family invites you to join us in wearing a splash of colors to celebrate Wayne’s life.
