Sylvia Jean Sapsky, 88, died Thursday April 30th, 2026 in Lubbock, Texas.   

Ms. Sapsky was born October 7th, 1937 in Galveston, Texas to George and Louise Harris Sapsky. She attended Galveston public schools and graduated from Ball High School, class of 1955. She later obtained her BA from Tulane University in 1962, and her MA from Stetson University in 1971. She completed advanced coursework from Florida State University in 1981. She was employed as an instructor and counselor in Florida and Texas, retiring in 2003 from the Snyder (Texas) ISD.   

Sylvia is survived by her daughter Karen Burke and husband Christopher Stephen Penrod of Lubbock, son Kevin Burke of San Angelo, grandson Allen Mehrafshan and fiancée Courtney Gibson of Dallas, and grandson Christopher Mehrafshan of Dallas. Sylvia is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law George and Ruby Sapsky in Texas City, several cousins throughout Galveston, a niece and several nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents George and Louise Sapsky, sister Mary Ellen Weber and brother Raymond.   

Funeral services will be held at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home in Galveston, Texas on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service beginning at 10:00 A.M.
