Stanley Faber passed away Oct 8, 2024 in Friendswood, Tx at his residence. He was the first son born in Providence RI on June 24, 1927 to Saul and Dorothy Faber. Graduating from Hope High School, In Providence, he enlisted in the Army as WWII was ending, then attended the University of RI, graduating with an engineering degree. He continued his education with a masters in aerospace engineering from the University of VA.
He went to work for NACA (the forerunner of NASA) in 1948. When the space race began and NASA was formed in 1958, he moved with many other engineers to work on rocket-ships. Stanley designed and developed many of the simulators for the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and space shuttle missions. He retired from NASA in 1984 as flight simulation chief. Retirement was not meant to be and he began working for Aerospace Corp developing experiments for the Air Force in the Space Shuttle. After retiring from Aerospace, he continued his affiliation with the space program as a docent with Space Center Houston (the NASA visitors center) leading tours of NASA.
He married Beverly Jean Salasky on Nov 22, 1953 in Hampton, VA. Two years later, Stuart Andrew (Andy) was born in Hampton and 3 years later, Marc was born in the same hospital. They moved to Houston in 1962, and built a house in Friendswood planting roots that continue to this day Jean passed away in Dec of 1996. A casual meeting with an old family friend, Norma Levy, a few years later began a relationship that continued until her death earlier this year.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lynn and brother in-law, Sam and recently, his younger brother, Sam.Stan is survived by sons, Andy (Monica) of Bells, Tx, and Marc (Fae) of Friendswood. and also, his sister in-law Sandy of Boca Raton, Fla., Grandchildren, Gil(Amber) of Bells, Micheal (fiancée Nicole Oulela), of Friendswood and Emily of South Korea. Stanley has one great grandchild, Shelby, of Bells.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 10AM at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock with Rabbi Peter Kessler officiating under the direction of J. Levy & Termini Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
