Ramona Ramirez Reyna, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She passed away peacefully at her residence with her daughter -in-law, granddaughter and great-granddaughter by her side. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 in the J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home Chapel, beginning with a visitation at 9:00 am followed by a rosary at 10:00 am and a service at 10:30 am. Burial will then be taken place at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. A reception will follow at the Holy Family Parish Life Center located at 2601 Ursuline in Galveston.
Ramona “Mona” Ramirez Reyna, the daughter of Sylvester and Ramonita Ramirez, was born August 9, 1932 in Vanderbilt, Texas. Mona was the first-born child of 11 children. She pursued a career as a Surgical Tech at St. Mary’s and John Sealy Hospital and eventually retired with John Sealy Hospital. She loved her Catholic faith and was an avid parishioner and Dama De Gaudalupanas member which started at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and continued at St. Patrick’s Church in Galveston, Texas.
Ramona married the love of her life George Sr., moved to Galveston and built a life with her husband and was blessed with three beautiful sons Elias “Eli” Jr., Eloy Sr. and George whom she loved unconditionally.
Ramona was a strong, professional, confident, sophisticated and proudful woman. It was a priority to provide stability for her sons and she made many sacrifices for her sons, especially when it was not normal for a woman to work outside of the home. She loved her sons and wanted the best for them.
Ramona took pride on how she presented herself, always poised and stylish. She was a gorgeous confident woman, when she stepped into a room she grabbed your attention not just by her beauty but by her confidence which her demeanor demanded respect.
Ramona was bold, she was fierce, she always spoke her mind and could be a force to be reckoned with.
Ramona loved her family, she loved to sing and dance and above all she loved God.
Ramona was the matriarch of the Reyna and Ramirez Family her wonderful memories and influence will continue to live on in the hearts of her entire family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.
Ramona is preceded in death by her parents Sylvester and Ramonita Ramirez the love of her life, Elias “George” Reyna Sr., sons, Elias Reyna Jr. and Eloy Reyna Sr., her siblings Alfred Ramirez, Johnny Ramirez, Lucy Hernandez and Minnie Allen.
She is survived by her son, George Reyna and wife Dolores, daughter-in-law Barbara Reyna, daughter-in-law Martha Rios-Branson. Her grandchildren Elias Reyna III, Dianna Reyna-Valdez, Alfred Reyna, Eloy Reyna Jr., Yvette Reyna, Elena Reyna, Estevan Reyna, Emilia Reyna, George Reyna Jr. and Max Reyna. Numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.
She is additionally survived by her brothers, Junior (Frances), Lino, Fernando (Maria) sister-in-law Frances, sisters, Susie (Vicente), Lidia (Juan) and Elva (Manuel). She also has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to give a special warm felt thank you to the nurses and doctors who cared for her. A special thank you to Ramona’s caretakers Barbara, Emilia, Kianna, Kemoni and Yvette for giving of themselves and ensuring she was always cared for.
