Nathaniel Shapiro Obituary

Nathaniel “Nat” Shapiro, age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Serenity Gardens Assisted Living Center. He was born in Galveston, Texas on September 28, 1929. He was the former serving president of Temple B’nai Israel. He was prominent businessman and engineer, having built and designed the “By The Sea” condominiums on the seawall. He had a love and passion for music and he passed that love onto his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter Betty Sue Coffman; and brother Aubrey Shapiro.  He is survived by his wife Betty Shapiro; daughter Maurica Boothe; grandson Todd Coffman and wife Michela; niece Kim Sue Haugen and husband David; nephews Mike Shapiro and wife Kim, and Lee Shapiro; great nieces and nephews Josh, Hannah, George, Michelle, Michael and Mary.  Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Congregation B’nai Israel Cemetery, 61st Street and Avenue T, Galveston, Texas, with Rabbi Marshal Klaven and Rabbi James Kessler officiating.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Temple B’nai Israel, 3008 Avenue O, Galveston, Texas 77550.
