Mirta Salinas Obituary

Mirta Azucena Salinas, 60, of Monterrey, Mexico, and Galveston, Texas, entered the gates of heaven, rejoicing, on April 11, 2025. Born on October 24, 1964, in Monterrey, she moved to Galveston at the age of four, where she spent the rest of her life sharing joy through faith, family, and food. A talented baker for more than 30 years, Mirta earned her degree in Culinary Arts from Galveston College. She later returned to the college as an adjunct instructor, sharing her passion by teaching a variety of cooking classes. Her dedication to her craft earned her an employee award, but more importantly, it won her the love and admiration of all who tasted her creations. Mirta’s greatest joys in life were serving God, spending time with her family, and baking. She cherished moments with her beloved mother, running errands together and playing with her great-nieces and nephews. A faithful and active member of Island Church in Galveston, Mirta found countless ways to serve—most often through the ministry she knew best: feeding people with love and care. Her devotion to Jesus was the foundation of her life, and she lived out His love in everything she did.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rogelio Salinas. Left to honor her memory are her loving mother, Elida Salinas; the love of her life and husband, Raul Salinas; her daughters, Mirzza Salinas, Iza Tonelli and her husband Filipe; her brothers, Rene Salinas and his wife Dionicia, Roy Salinas and his wife Fermina, David Salinas and his wife Ninett; her sister Edna Valdez, her heart sisters Irma Gonzales and Mirna Benavides; and a large, loving extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Mirta will forever be remembered as The Cake Lady—a kind-hearted, joyful soul whose warmth and selflessness touched the lives of so many. She was a devoted daughter, a loving wife, a nurturing mother, a doting sister, and a woman with a true servant’s heart. A celebration of Mirta’s life will be held at Island Church Galveston on April 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Rusty Martin officiating. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend and honor her beautiful legacy. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
