Margaret Taormina Tramonte Obituary

Margaret Frances Taormina Tramonte, 93, of Galveston, Texas passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024. She was born on September 21, 1930, in Galveston, Texas to Frances and Vincent Taormina. She graduated from Ball High School in 1947. Margaret worked at First Hutchings Sealy National Bank until she met the love of her life, Joseph J. Tramonte, Sr. “Dutsie” at her sister, Rose’s wedding. They wed on May 1, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Galveston and were married over 54 years until his death on March 30, 2002.

They shared a lifetime of love and devotion, raising their family and participating in all their children’s many activities. She worked tirelessly on the O’Connell High School Scholarship Committee, as well as the St. Patrick Church Restoration Committee. She was particularly proud of that effort when in the remodeling process, the beautiful Rose windows were uncovered in the vaulted ceiling of the church. Margaret also served on the Board of the Galveston Ronald McDonald House.

Margaret and Joe loved entertaining family and friends at their homes both on 3802 Avenue O and 10 Adler Circle. They opened their home for every kind of occasion including christenings, bridal and baby showers, special milestone birthdays, weddings, graduation parties including celebrations of life.

Far and above their most cherished activities occurred at Texas A&M University, especially Aggie football games. In 1985, as members of the Texas A&M Aggie Club they endowed a permanent 12th Man Scholarship. Every weekend of home games they would drive to College Station on Friday and check into the suite at the Holiday Inn rooms 600 and 601. And the party would begin. On Saturday, they would then drive to Kyle Field and park at their reserved spot F 11. A tailgating party would be set up and all would be welcome. They would then ride the elevator to Section 207, Row 5, Seats 1-4, and the yelling would begin (Tra says that Aggies yell, they do not cheer). Through victories and losses, they supported their beloved Aggies.

For many years Margaret loved playing Bridge with friends and family and when Mahjong became popular, Margaret organized a new group of enthusiasts. They played weekly on Tuesdays for lunch at the Hilton and the tiles would be set up for the game to begin. Much fun and laughter ensued.

Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband Joseph, her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Christine and Jasper Tramonte, brother Joseph Taormina, brother Charles “Charlie” and sister-in-law Lila Mae, sisters and brothers-in-law Antoinette and Joseph Piperi, Mary and Benjamin “Lefty” Holland Sr., Pauline and Joseph “Joe” Summerville, Sr., Anna Mary “Annie” and Walter “Slim” Summerville, and Rose and James “Jimmy” O’Rourke.
