In Loving Memory of Leslie Sommers It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Leslie Sharon Sommers, a beloved mother, dedicated teacher, and a woman of profound passion and warmth. Leslie departed this world on December 6, 2023, at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy of love, education, and joy. Born in New York, New York, Leslie was raised just outside the city in Nanuet, New York.
From an early age, Leslie exhibited a love for learning and a nurturing spirit that would shape her lifelong commitment to education. Leslie's career in education spanned over three decades, where she touched the lives of countless children at the elementary and junior high levels. Her influence went beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she taught and inspired. A vibrant and spirited soul, Leslie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a devoted fan of Peanuts and Snoopy, finding comfort and laughter in the timeless creations of Charles M. Schulz. Her love for dogs, particularly collies, was evident in the furry companions she cherished throughout her life.
While living in the Houston area, Leslie developed a passion for space science, and found immense joy in attending live shows, whether it be theater performances, concerts, or sporting events. Her enthusiasm for sports, science and the arts reflected a life well-lived, filled with a zest for new experiences and the celebration of human creativity. Leslie is survived by her two loving children, Brett and Joseph Sommers, both of League City, Texas.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and an unwavering dedication to family and community.
A celebration of Leslie's life will take place at 1pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your favorite animal rescue organization in Leslie's name. Some of her favorites were Houston Collie Rescue, Bay Area Pet Adoptions, and Houston Humane Society.
