Kay Files Potts, age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Memorial Hermann SW Hospital in Houston. She was born in Galveston, Texas on January 12, 1942.
She graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was also a member of the Junior League of Galveston. She was a high school Math teacher for 46 years. She taught at both O’Connell High School and Texas City High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Duke and Elizabeth Files; and son-in-law Michael O’Malley.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ronald Potts; daughter Kerry Potts O’Malley and Ed Neumann of Galveston, Texas; son Kirby Potts of Galveston, Texas; granddaughter Megan Martin and husband Clay of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandson Mitchell O’Malley of Birmingham, Alabama; and brother-in-law Roger Potts and wife Diana of Mustang, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 1903 Church Street, Galveston, Texas 77550, with Reverend Steven Hill officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 5:00 P.M. A reception will be held in McCullough Hall following the service.
