Jose Garcia, 87, passed away on August 2, 2026 at his home in Galveston, Texas. He was born on July 29, 1939 to Luis and Frances Garcia in Sugarland, Texas. As a BOI, he attended GISD and graduated from Ball High School in 1958. After graduation, Jose joined the Army and was stationed in Germany for 4 years. After he was discharged, Jose worked as a first-class welder and was a valued employee at Todd’s Shipyard, where he retired after working numerous years. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and a faithful servant of God with a special devotion to the B.V.M. 

Jose is survived by his brothers: Paul Garcia (Annette), Pedro Garcia, and Jessie Garcia.  He is also survived by his sisters: Linda G. Maher (Larry), and Susan Saldena (Jesse); and brother-in-law Johnny Flores. 

In his final days, Jose was cared for by his family members and loved ones.  Special thanks to Betty Gounha, Julia and Manuel Ortego and his church family for their love and support. Finally, his partner in life, Euframia (Ende) Vina. We Love You…. 

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 5th at 5:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 6:00 pm at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home Chapel.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 10:00 am, at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston. 

Pallbearers will be:  Paulo Flores, Louie Garcia, Kevin Ovalle, Chris Saldana, Paulo Garcia, and Jesse Joe Saldana.
