Johnnie was born in Nederland, Texas, which is a small known East Texas town. He blossomed from there into a shining star as a person, a companion, and a friend. He graduated with a degree in chemistry from the University of Houston and was recruited to work for Dow Chemical Company in Texas. Here expanded his footprint at Dow from chemicals to find his forte and bliss by working with people. He rose to become the boss, Global Human Resources Manager of the department at Dow as he followed his dream and enjoyment of people. He honed his skills helping the employees and other people. But thirty five years there was enough, when an opportunity to further expand his people skills and knowledge of Human Resources presented itself at Career Management International. Here he counseled career management and transitioned assistance into an executive coaching profession from 2004 until retirement. Johnnie Mize was not just a skilled worker, he also loved outside work that translated into projects, which gave him a meaningful life. He loved beauty, and surrounded himself with fine living space, a grand piano that he played often and masterfully, lush flowering gardens and grounds, and a commonly used home and grounds for the benefit of others. For instance, he hosted fundraisers for the likes of the American Heart Association and for the Galveston County Humane Society. His two lifelong companion rescue schnauzers, Max and Baxter and his other blind dog, Penny, were ever present and so spoiled by Johnnie.
And let’s not forget, his partner in marriage, Eddie Kier, who was also the love of Johnnie’s life. Johnnie and Eddie lived in the Virgin Islands for a while, which is known for its peace and tranquility, which Johnnie loved and cherished, in the midst of an otherwise busy and full life when they lived in Texas, and then ultimately in Galveston. Eddie passed away about two years ago, leaving a hole that was never completely healed in Johnnie’s heart. They always enjoyed cruising together. Johnnie continued to board ships and cruise the seas afterwards often and on a regular basis missing his partner. Johnnie is survived by his sweet mother, aptly named Joy. A sister, Linda Wilson and her husband Ken, their children Kimberly and also Kris and his wife Jamie, along with a great nephew Preston. Numerous friends from all over Texas and the world, too many to mention, but no less important in Johnnie’s life. All join in mourning the tragic and sudden loss of Johnnie. Remembrances and Memorials to the life of Johnnie Mize are best made to the Galveston County Humane Society, to continue the important worked that Johnnie loved. A celebration and remembrance of Johnnie’s Life will take place at the Galveston Country Club on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 pm and is open to ALL who knew and loved Johnnie.
