John Charles Riley

John C. Riley passed away at his home in Crystal Beach, Texas on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at age 94.  

John was born on August 13th, 1926 to James Turner Riley and Edna Riley in Trenton, Texas. He joined the United States Navy Seals in April of 1944 during World War II, just 3 months after his high school graduation. Shortly thereafter, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he earned his ranking as Staff Sergeant. He married Betty Frances Bagley on November 4, 1950, in New Hanover, North Carolina. In June of 1952, John retired from the Marines to begin his family in Houston, Texas where he worked as a purchasing agent for Lenert Co. John and Betty had three children; Kathleen, James, and Candy.  

In 1992, John retired and moved to Crystal Beach, Texas in pursuit of a leisurely lifestyle. His hobbies included fishing, wood working, leather working, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with family, gardening, and cooking. He could always be found either working in his wood shop or tending to his garden he shared with his daughter, Kathleen. John was a follower of Christ and an active member of the Port Bolivar Methodist church for many years. He was an honorable veteran, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will be missed by many.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty  Riley; his parents, John and Edna Riley; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Riley. John is survived by his children, Kathleen Riley Jasmin, James Riley, and Candy Henry; his grandchildren, Cindy Jasmin (Jennifer), Steven Jasmin, John Riley, Diane Kelley (Michael), Alicia Kelley, and David Roberds (Lacie); as well as his great-grandchildren, Megan Kelley, Brenda Watie, Travis Watie, Cera Farringer, Kade Roberds, Anthony LaPorte, Hailee Roberds and David Roberds Jr. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas, with Reverend Raymond Pinard officiating.
