Jacqueline "Jacque" (Neubauer) Ellis

Jacqueline “Jacque” (Neubauer) Ellis of Galveston, TX, passed away surrounded by her family on November 16, 2024, at the age of 81. Jacque was born in Beaumont, TX to Birdie Lee Munson Neubauer and Julius Andrew Neubauer on August 19, 1943, but grew up in Austin, TX, attending William B. Travis High School. 

Jacque attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in Home Economics Education. While at UT, she met her husband, Michael, whom she married right after graduation.  They moved to Galveston, TX for one year before returning to Austin, where she taught at the Texas School for the Blind while she completed her master’s degree. 

After graduation, they returned to Galveston and she began teaching Home Economics at Levi Fry Junior High in Texas City, TX.  Jacque decided to leave teaching after the birth of her children and became a stay-at-home mother.  Once her children were older, she returned to teaching, this time in the kindergarten classroom at Trinity Episcopal School. After many years in the classroom, she began working for her much-beloved Trinity Episcopal Church.

Jacque was a committed member of Trinity Church, involved in Altar Guild, Daughters of the King, ECW, as Christian Education Director as well as being a Sunday School teacher and working in the administrative office. She was involved in Galveston’s City-Wide Vacation Bible School and delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband. She was involved as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter and a Boy Scout troop leader for her son. She supported numerous youth programs within the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, particularly in the kitchen at many, many Happening weekends. Despite her extensive involvement, Jacque’s true gift was her humility – never seeking the spotlight, but always finding ways to serve others. Her life was a beautiful testament to the power of quiet dedication, and her legacy of love, service and faith will be remembered by all who knew her. 

Jacque is remembered by her husband of 58 years, Michael Ellis; her daughter, Elaine Ellis; her son and his wife, Mark & Sarah Ellis; their grandchildren Taylor, Noah, Emma Kate & Luke Ellis; and her brother and his wife, Roger & Joy Neubauer. 

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 1pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston, TX.
