On September 20, 2025, an angel was sent to bring Frances home. She passed away peacefully at her residence with her daughter Laura Kay by her side. Frances was born on Galveston Island on November 3, 1933. She was a very loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Because her father died when she was young, Frances had to quit school in the 9th grade to help take care of the family. She found a job as a waitress where she later met and married Jimmie Foy Sr. Together they had 3 children, Lena, Betty and Jimmie Jr., before divorcing. Later, she met and married Joe Polkinghorne and together had a daughter, Laura Kay.
Frances was a homemaker for a while before going back to work this time as a waitress at John's Oyster Resort where she worked for many years. After they closed she went to work for the La Marque School District in food service, where she obtained her GED and became a Manager before retiring in 1996. After retiring, she loved to garden, planting all kinds of beautiful flowers. Frances also loved cookies, her son-in-law, Earl, would send her dozens of cookies from New York, but they wouldn't last long.
Frances will be lovingly remembered for her amazing tamales; a cherished tradition she prepared every holiday season for family and friends, creating memories for all that knew her. People would put in their orders well before the holidays to insure being able to get them.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joseph A. Polkinghorne, father, Santos Gutierrez Sr, step father and mother Angelo and Marguerite Sanchez, brothers, Florentino Gutierrez, Santos Gutierrez Jr., Lupe Lopez and daughter Lena Foy Boutelle.
Frances is survived by her sister Mary Ward; children, Laura Kay, Jimmie Foy Jr(Fran) and Betty Foy McDaniel(Steve); loving and caring son-in-law Earl H. Boutelle, Sr.; Grandchildren, Renee Heyd(Jochen), Valerie Wright, Lenzy Allen Gamble, Chelsey Foy, Jinnelle Foy, Joseph Eugene Foy, Zoey Klinecole, Jimmie Joseph Foy (Lauren) Everette Second, Skip Boutelle, Nikki Noto(Jay), Eileen Taylor and Gary Boutelle; Great-grandchildren, Kendall Wright, Lakota Hewgley, Eugene Hewgley, Jeremiah Foy-Nanz, Jessica Benavidez (Adrien), Stacey Edwards, Steven Earl Edwards (Gianna), Cody Noto, and Kaleigh Noto; Great-great-grandchildren, Addison Tamayo, Jacob Benavidez, Amelia Rose Edwards and Naomi Jones. Also left to cherish her memories are her loving and caring niece Minnie Bernard and her husband Albert.

Levy & Termini Funeral Home on Monday September 29, 2025 at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Accent Care Hospice, especially Nurse Monica for the wonderful care she provided to our mom. Also to Tiffany, Rebecca, Lu and RJ. And to CNA Angelia who always brought mom so much joy and laughter.
If roses grow in heaven, Lord, then pick a bunch for me. Place them in my mom's arms and tell her they're from me. Tell her that I love and miss her and when she turns to smile. Place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while.
We love you, Betty, Jimmie and Laura Kay
