Ernestine T. Castro

Ernestine T. Castro, age 94, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021. She was born on May 26, 1926 in Laredo, Texas to Pedro and Maria Torres. After she graduated from high school Ernestine went to work as a secretary at Jeff Davis Hospital in Houston. Later she met the love of her life, Lee Castro and they were married on January 18, 1949. She worked side by side with Lee as members of the League of United Latin Americans, Council 60. They both campaigned to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, and political influence of Hispanics. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion of the Jacinto City Post 397.  For several years, she also volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Houston, helping to secure the comfort of hospitalized veterans.

In her later years, she became MoMo to her six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. They energized her life and she loved each one in a special way.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Castro; her parents Pedro and Maria Torres; three siblings; daughter Linda Ann; son Robert Lee; and daughter-in-law Linda.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Jean Muehr and husband Eric; son Ralph Castro and wife Denessa; grandchildren Joni Childs, Dori Alejandro and husband Saul, Joseph Castro and wife Stephanie, Jared Castro and wife Jessica, Michael Jetty Muehr and Rachel Mitchell, and Lee John Muehr and wife Lauren; great-grandchildren Steven Chachere, Sara Alejandro, Jessica Alejandro, Marissa Alejandro, Kaitlynn Alejandro, Mikayla Castro, Mackenzie Childers, Aidan Castro, Austin Castro, Olivia Castro, Adalynn Castro, Cassidy Castro, Clinton Castro, Colt Castro and Cade Castro; great-great-grandchildren Steele Chachere, Kyzen Lee Chachere, Josslyn Alejandro, Evelyn Alejandro, Aiden Perez, Osyris Perez and Amara Perez;  and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who were very special to her.

Funeral services will be held at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 2:00 P.M., with Dr. Ralph Castro officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M.  A private interment will be held at a later date at Houston National Cemetery.
