DORIS GARCIA BANUELOS
Doris was born April 24, 1929 to Benjamin and Dominga (Gomez) Garcia. She has died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 25, 2022.
Having spent all her 93 years in Galveston, she prided herself on being a BOI! She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, class of 1947, and later earned a business degree.
During her employment at the Galveston County Courthouse she met, and later married, Herbert J. Banuelos, Sr. The couple were married for 40 years and had 6 children together. A natural nurturer, Doris made the decision to dedicate her early years to raising her family.
To continue supporting her family, she reentered the workforce as an accounting professional in the 1970s. She eventually retired from Guaranty Federal Bank.
Doris later met and married Jake Dodson. The couple shared many happy years together and were active members of the VFW Post 880.
As a lifelong baseball fan and a huge Astros supporter, she could often be seen wearing her sequined ball caps and a big smile. She also enjoyed live music, dancing and trying her luck at Coushatta.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters, Ernestine Hill and Connie Luff, and daughter, Teresa Banuelos.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Serpas, her children Diane (Mike) Harkrider, Herbert Jr. (Jessie), John Glen, Michael and Monica Banuelos, her 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
