Demetrio “Mario” Guillen Jr., age 59, went home to be with Jesus Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, TX surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 28, 1964, in Phoenix, AZ. to Demetrio Guillen Sr. & Maria Olga Castro. At an early age, he moved with his family to Galveston, where they made their home. He attended Galveston schools & worked for the City of Galveston for several years, later working several years in the oil field, finally retiring from Comcast Cable to be a self-employed mechanic, where he found his true calling. It became his passion to share his knowledge with family & friends.
He loved all sports, but he was a dedicated lifelong Astros fan. His love for the Astros was only matched by his love for BBQing & sharing food with his family & friends. His famous cabbage rolls were looked forward to every New Year’s Day. He had an enormous heart, unconditional love, a wonderful sense of humor, & an unending generosity that could be seen in the care of those close to him. He was always ready to help anyone who needed it. He genuinely loved people, & if you knew him, you knew it. He is already so missed. The memories he created with family & friends will be forever cherished.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather, David Castro & brother Alfonso Guillen Sr.
He is survived by his loving & faithful wife of 20 years, Teresa King Guillen, his parents, Demetrio Guillen Sr. (Petra) & Maria Olga Castro. Also survived by his beloved daughter, Stephanie Martines(Luis); his stepchildren, whom he loved as his own, Alina Balvantin(Ismael), Freddie King(Joann), Richard King(Randi) & Rosanne Rodriquez(Mikey). Grandchildren, Catalina, Jose Alberto Jr., Emily, Jocelyn, Aracely, Marissa, Miranda, Anaiza, Gracie, Callie, Nataleigh, Gabriel, Sabrina, Dominga, Aliana, Abigail, Athena, Star, Reuben, Juan Jr., Kandace, Xavier, Cadien, & Alicea; great-grandchildren, Braylen, Charisma, Aiden, Nevaeh, Baeleigh, Brinley and Já Veed; his siblings Lupita Cavazos(Frank), Mayte Romero, Estefana Mendoza(Ramon), Jose “Joey” Guillen(Andrea), Margie Castro(Mike), David Castro, & Robert Castro(Blanca); mother-in-law Mary Shepard & longtime friends David Sifuentes(Wanda) & adopted daughter whom he loved dearly, Carol Baranowski(Todd), along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & special friends.
The family would like to thank the Nurses & all the staff from 10B at Jennie Sealy for their kindness and loving care, also all of his doctors that were part of his outpatient care at UTMB.
Visitation will be held at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at J.
