David Patrick Barrie

David Patrick Barrie, age 85, passed away Monday, December 2, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his children. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 20, 1939. 

Dave spent most of his childhood years on the east coast, moving to the Heights of Houston, TX just before his teen years. Dave worked various jobs as a child, starting as a newspaper boy when he was very young and then as a soda jerk as a young teen. He went on to work in construction and ironwork as a late teen, joining the Army at 21 years old. 

The Army trained him as a Computer Software Writer and Developer, a profession he was to continue for another 15 years as a civilian. In the early 80's Dave began to branch out in his own business endeavors, until "retiring" in the early 2000's and moving to Mexico for several years. Not one to be tied down by retirement, Dave stayed involved in various businesses, ultimately becoming a Private Investigator, and Security Advisor to a large railroad and shipping company, until age forced him to "really retire" in 2020. 

While Dave took great pride in his vocational and business endeavors, his greatest sense of peace and accomplishment came from achieving and maintaining his sobriety through the shared "experience, strength, and hope" with other "Friends of Bill". He was very glad to have accomplished 50 years of sobriety on November 6, 2024.  

He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Barrie; his son, Ron (Reb) Barrie; 8 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.  

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, December 7, 2024 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, 2128 Broadway, Galveston, TX.  Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1pm.

Snacks and soft drinks will served afterwards at 3pm at the 33rd St Group 1823 33rd St. Galveston, TX.
