Betty Shapiro Obituary

Next time you decide against baking challah, go for it. Betty Shapiro, affectionately known as Bubbie, entered eternal life on Monday, September 14, 2015. Her spirit is carried on by her grandson, daughter, surviving siblings, nieces and nephews, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. We were blessed to learn many valuable kitchen lessons from Bubbie: make it fresh and hand pick everything - yes, that means picking okra or green beans one at a time. She was best known for her challah. It even won her a spot in the newspaper. Along with being a great cook, she was a boss on the dance floor. If no one would dance with her she would cut a rug on her own. Her spirit lives on good and strong and we know she’s looking down on Serenity Gardens from her Eternal Garden and sending blessings and dreams of challah to everyone who cared for her. Bubbie is reunited with her husband Nathaniel “Nat” Shapiro and is preceded in death by her daughter Betty Sue Coffman. They are all having the best party and Bubbie is front and center with the best hors d'oeuvres that heaven has ever seen.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Congregation B’nai Israel Cemetery, 61st Street and Avenue T, Galveston, Texas, with Rabbi Marshal Klaven officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Temple B’nai Israel, 3008 Avenue O, Galveston, Texas 77550.
