Benjamin Rush Powel, II, died on September 2, 2025, in Galveston, Texas. Ben was born in Houston, Texas on October 30, 1931, and was raised in Goose Creek (Baytown) Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father Benjamin Rush Powel, mother Frances Gladys Fenton, wife Constance Vincent Powel and grandson James Davis Powel.
He was married for 67 years to Constance Vincent Powel until her passing in November, 2020. They met in New Hampshire while he was stationed with the Air Force during the Korean War. He served from January 1951 to January 1955.
He received his bachelor degree from the University of Texas in 1957 and his law degree from UT in 1959. Upon completion of the Bar exam in December 1959, he went on to help found the firm of McLeod, Alexander, Powel and Apffel P.C., a law firm which is still thriving today.
Another proud part of his life was his contributions to Galveston College, supporting many scholarships and opportunities for local youth.
He is survived by four sons, one daughter and three grandchildren. Benjamin Rush Powel III (Lauren Rivers), Martin Vincent Powel, wife Michelle and granddaughter Nicole, husband Cory Hill, Davis Fenton Powel and wife Holly, Christopher John Powel and daughter Juliette Powel Hoffner (Frank Kastelz) and children Analyn and Brayden, and family friend Joyce Louvier.
Funeral arrangements are made through J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 10:00 am with visitation starting at 9:00 am.
Private burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Galveston College, 4015 Avenue Q, Galveston, Texas 77550 or Galveston Island Meals on Wheels, 2803 53rd Street, Galveston, Texas 77551.
