Allen Isaac Miller, born on July 7, 1930 to Dorothy and Abraham Miller in Brooklyn, New York and died on April 6, 2025. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Master’s degree. Upon graduation from MIT, he married the love of his life, Sandra Rosenthal on June 27, 1954. He joined the Navy in 1955 and was commissioned an Ensign. They then spent 3 years in Patuxent River, Maryland where Allen was assigned as a staff instructor at the Navy Test Pilots School and their first daughter, Rebecca Ellen was born. Eighteen months later they had their son, Martin Conrad. When Allen was discharged from the Navy, they made their home in Wellesley, Massachusetts where he went to work for a Consulting firm in Boston, Foster Miller Associates and they had a second daughter, Barbara Suzanne. He served an additional 23 years in the Naval Reserves retiring as a Commander.
He subsequently worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA designing nuclear power plants. In 1970, the Miller family moved to Lewiston, Maine where Allen went to work in the family textile business as a plant manager and purchasing agent from which he retired in 2003.
The Millers moved from Maine to Galveston in 2005 to be with daughter Barbara and son-in-law Donald. They lived in The Breakers Condominiums where they made many good friends. Sandra was known for starting up the weekly happy hour group which daughter Barbara still continues today. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Galveston in 2014 with family and friends at a local restaurant and celebrated their 68th anniversary in 2023 before Sandra passed away.
He enjoyed playing golf and crossword puzzles but most of all traveling, and specifically cruising. The Millers went on over 40 ocean cruises, 4 river cruises and 6 land vacations out of the USA.
He is predeceased by his wife, Sandra Rosenthal Miller in 2023, son, Martin in 2003 and his sister, Elaine Goodman in 2021. He is survived by daughter, Rebecca Meick along with her husband Ronald Meick, his daughter Barbara Legate and her husband Donald Legate and his daughter-in-law Linda Corman Miller. He is also survived by three grandsons, Philip D. Meick and his wife Michelle, Ethan S. Meick and his wife Tiffany, Benjamin A. Miller and great grand-daughter Maud C. Meick.
Allen lived his final years at The Meridian in Galveston where he received extremely good care.
