Justina (Vargas) Gonzales

Justina “Augie” Gonzales was born on September 26, 1926 in Galveston, Texas to Jose Rosario Vargas and Manuela Martinez. She attended school and later worked at UTMB Hospital where she worked as a nurse’s aide. Augie was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a regular attendee of the women’s group at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She brought four children into this world, and like her they were raised in the Catholic Church. She was also a devoted daughter and cared for her aging mother and father until the end of their lives. Augie will always be remembered as a loving grandmother and caring daughter.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Alex, David, Chayo Vargas, sister, Felipia Galicia and sons, Benny Quintana, and John Gonzales. Survivors include sister Esther Montoya, daughters, Mona Rodriguez, Mary Louise Cahue, grandkids and many great grandkids whom she adored.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 P.M., with Deacon Sam Dell’Olio officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Luciano Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Alfred Quintana, John Gonzales, Johnny Montoya, Martin Galicia.
