Charles Vincent Taormina, Sr., age 95, passed away peacefully in his chair on Friday, March 17, 2017. He was born on January 13, 1922 in Galveston, Texas. His early years were spent with his parents, 6 sisters and 1 brother. He is most proud of his time working as a baker at G & G Bakery (hence the homemade rolls at Christmas) and later retired as a machinist from Union Carbide after 32 years of service. He was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lily Mae (February 29, 2016); son-in-law Robert Goerlich; parents Vincent and Frances Taormina; brother Joseph; sisters and brother-in-laws Antoinette and Joseph Piperi, Mary and Benjamin (Lefty) Holland, Pauline and Joseph Summerville, Annie and Walter (Slim) Summerville, brother-in-laws James O’Rourke and Joseph J. Tramonte; nephews Joseph Piperi, Frank Whitehurst, Lloyd O’Rourke and Earl (Buddy) Summerville; nieces Frances Levisee and Alice Summerville (Buddy’s wife).

He is survived by daughter Ellen Goerlich and Tom Verkin; sisters Margaret Tramonte and Rose O’Rourke; granddaughter Candace Goerlich and husband Mark Thomas, grandson Christopher Goerlich and wife Mari; great-grandchildren Madeleine Thomas, Cohen Goerlich, Noah Goerlich, Finn Goerlich and Sophia Goerlich; nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, 2128 Broadway, Galveston, Texas 77550. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews Redus Day, Dr. Howard Dillard, Benny Holland, Gary Summerville, Tom Summerville, Tra Tramonte, and V.J. Tramonte; Dave Augustin and Felix Serrata.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 815 Market St., Galveston, Texas 77550 or the charity of one’s choice.

He will be reunited again with his true love Lily in Heaven.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to long-time friends and family for being there for Charlie throughout the years. We are grateful for the respect that Galveston Police Department and EMS gave to him and our family at our time of need.
