Nancy Fern Conner, 87, passed away, May 12, 2016 in Galveston, TX.

Nancy was born in November 21, 1928 in Fresno, California to Greg and Mary Thompson. Nancy left her home in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1945 after marrying Ben Conner. They started their family in Galveston County. For a time in the early 1960’s, she worked as a key-punch operator at the Moody Compress in Galveston. She and her husband built their home on Galveston Island. She went back to school in 1967 to get her high school diploma and then attended nursing school. She went on to become an LVN, graduating in 1972, and was a unit clerk at UTMB in the pediatrics unit for twenty years. She loved her church and church family, but she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ most of all. She was the remaining surviving founding member of the Galveston Seventh-Day Adventist Church ( 1947) where she served as Head deaconess, Childrens Ministry leader, Adventurer Club Director, Sabbath School Superintendent, Greeter.

She was also a beloved member of the Grandmothers Club of Galveston. She was an accomplished vocalist, and a member of the UTMB and the Galveston Choral groups for many years. She loved to sing. You could walk into her home and she would be joyfully singing one of her favorite hymns. To say her laughter was infectious is a major understatement, The WHO couldn’t begin to develop a vaccine. But why would they? One of her favorite bible quotes was, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.”

Nancy loved the outdoors and especially hiking, fishing and camping, and she instilled the love of nature in her children and grandchildren. The wonderful aromas of her baking bread in her kitchen are those which we all will cherish and miss. She came home to be surrounded by family and friends like longtime neighbor Francis Sullivan.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Viola Thompson and George Roy Thompson; her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Ben W. Conner Jr.; sisters, Helen Maurer of San Francisco, CA., Hazel Dickson of Grand Ronde, Oregon, Dorothy Coker of Pioneer, California; brother, Paul Thompson of Nebraska; son, Benny Eugene Conner; daughter, Cynthia Eileen Haggerton.

She is survived by sisters Ruby Williams of Walker, LA and Georgie Lee Thompson of Sutter Creek, CA; her brother Ted L. Conner and his wife, Rita of Texas City, TX; sons, Richard J. Conner of Galveston,TX and Paul R. Conner and his wife, Sue Osborne of Hitchcock, TX; grandchildren, April D. Ferrell of Maine, Jennifer R. Conner of Texas City, TX, Ashley D. Conner & Ryan C. Conner of Galveston, TX, Jonathan K. Conner of Denton,TX, John Haughey of Georgetown, TX, Nate Perricini of New York, and Benny Eugene Jr. of Galveston, TX. She was adored and loved by a host of nieces and nephews from California, Arizona, Nebraska, Louisiana and Texas.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Rodney Garcia officiating. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. at The Seventh- Day Adventist Church, at 17th & Avenue M ½, with Pastor John McFarlane officiating.
