Ellen Willa Bastein Damiani was born and raised in Galveston, TX and resided in Galveston until Hurricane Ike destroyed her residence in 2008. Ellen relocated to Carriage Inn in Huntsville, TX which is the city of residence for her surviving daughter Diana Damiani Otte and son-in-law, William Karl Otte Jr.
She graduated in 1940 from Ursuline Academy and later from Metropolitan Business College with certification as an Executive Secretary. In addition, she was then asked by the College to become an instructor which she did for several years.
Ellen was very active in the Catholic Community, with Sacred Heart Church being her affiliation. She served as President of the church’s Women’s Club, the Parish Council, a Eucharistic Minister and her favorite association was with the Catholic Daughters. She served as Grand Regent, District Deputy and all offices of her respective Court Star of the Sea #228 of Galveston. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters for over 30 years.
Ellen retired from American National Insurance Company after 45 years with the title of Actuarial Administrative Assistant in 1999.
She loved bowling, ceramics, knitting, crochet, bridge, bingo and playing the slot machines from time to time! Her favorite pastime every football season was watching her Dallas Cowboys football team try to work their way to the Super Bowl.
She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Joseph Damiani, her parents William Joseph and Claudia Bavoux Bastien, her brother Armand William Bastien and wife Florine Gonzales Bastien and her great granddaughter, Katherine Anne Otte.
Surviving members of her family are daughter and son-in-law as mentioned above, grandsons William Karl Otte, III, (Trey) and wife Patricia McCrary Otte, grandson Christopher Lance Otte and wife Jennifer Smith Otte and great grandsons, Carson Lance Otte, William Hughes Otte and Carter Landon Otte. In addition, niece Claudia Bastien Stevens, nephews Armand W. Bastien, Sr. and wife Sandy and Robert E. Bastien and wife Deborah. Additional great nieces and nephews, Claudia and Gus Paredes and family, Robert and Betsy Bastien, Christy Freeman, Bill and Pam Stevens and family, Diana Stevens & Kevin Allen, Adrienne and Jared Caruso and family, Armand W. Bastien, Jr. and wife Sherry and cousins Robert John Babcock and wife Cheryl, Gigi Schmidt and husband John and family, and Jo Elaine Llewellyn and family and other cousins and good friends.
Services will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, 2128 Broadway, Galveston Texas beginning with visitation from 5 to 6pm. Immediately following the visitation, Father Paul Chovanec, Pastor of St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church of Houston will preside over the Rosary and the Catholic Rites.
