Herbert Banuelos, Jr. Obituary

Herbert “Herb” Joseph Banuelos Jr., born on August 23, 1960, in Galveston, TX, peacefully passed away at the age of 63 on March 27, 2024. Born to proud parents Herbert J. Banuelos Sr. and Doris Garcia Banuelos at St. Mary's Hospital, Herb brought immense joy to his family, especially his father who proudly welcomed his namesake.

Herb spent his life in the Galveston area, cultivating a deep love for fishing and horseback riding, pursuits that resonated with his island roots. His teenage years were marked by cherished moments spent at Toby's Stables on 7 ½ Mile Road, igniting a lifelong passion for horses.

After graduating from Ball High School in 1979, Herb embarked on a career in construction before finding a home at UTMB's Maintenance Department for 13 years, where he forged enduring friendships.

Herb was preceded in death by his beloved parents and sister, Teresa Banuelos.

He is survived by his children: Lorilea Salazar (Cyrus Fields), Samantha McIntyre (Samuel), Elizabeth Banuelos, Herbert J. Banuelos III, Sonny Banuelos (Shannon), stepson Matthew Valdez, and cherished grandchildren Cyrina and Carsyn "Cub" Fields, Grace and Sean Banuelos, and Jayden and Mila McIntyre. He is also survived by two loving ex-wives, Jackie Phillips Banuelos and Jessie Denney Banuelos, his siblings Diane Harkrider (Mike), John Banuelos, Michael Banuelos, and Monica Banuelos, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Having rededicated his life to Christ and finding solace and community at the Church of the Living God, Herb exemplified resilience and faith in his courageous 17-year battle against cancer.

His final wishes were simple: to attend his church, savor fried shrimp, and indulge in his beloved pastime of fishing one last time.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Tony and Anita Galicia, Greg Lera, and the Church of the Living God for their unwavering support and Joe Gonzales for providing cherished fishing memories at his treasured spot. Herb's laughter may no longer grace this world, but its echoes will continue to resonate in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his presence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Church of the Living God, 3315 7 Mile Rd, Galveston, TX 77554 www.colg.org/give-online/
