Robert “Big Bobby” Lee Sanderson Jr., 60, passed away surrounded by family on October 2, 2017. He was born on November 23, 1956 in Galveston Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sanderson; his son, Robert Lee Sanderson III and Rachel; his sisters Laura Sanderson Ryan and Gloria Carroll and her husband Stewart; stepbrother, Matt Stanich; sister-in-law Mary Gillane and husband Jimmie; special mother Shirley Sanderson; mother-in-law Joyce Ekelund; uncle George Kaiser and wife Carol; Goddaughter Lauren Savage; nieces and nephews; his four legged children Sam, Abba, Elvis and Squirrel; and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his son Christopher Michael Sanderson; father, Robert Lee Sanderson, Sr.; mother, Norma Kaiser Jameson; father-in-law, Oscar T. Ekelund Jr.; maternal and paternal grandparents.

Bobby was a life long resident of Galveston who enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Upon graduating from Ball High School in 1975 he showed strong community ties by working at ILA (International Longshoremen Association) at Local 1665 for over 25 years where he served as the Union President and Business Agent. During that time he worked under the leadership of Bill Scott with Galveston Beach Patrol. Later in his career he transitioned into a career in law enforcement serving the communities of Galveston Police Department, Hitchcock Police Department and Jamaica Beach Police Department.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, with Reverend Richard Rhoades officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Big Bobby personally wanted to thank the City of Galveston, Galveston Police Department, Galveston Fire Department and Galveston Parks and Recreation Department for their unwavering support and dedication to his family.

The family would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Abdul Abdellatif, Gayle Leighton, Alicia Olguin, Yolanda Gonzales, DaVita Dialysis Victory Lakes, Houston Methodist St. John Hospital ICU staff, A-Med Hospice staff and Dr. Remy.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Smecca, Jimmie Gillane, Joe Maffei, Dennis Byrd Sr., Anthony “BoBo” Conde, Roland Charles Vassallo, Craig Tremonte and Sam Alsabrook. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Scott, Freddie Poor, The Galveston Police Department, Karl Haupt, Ray Chapman, Emmanuel Kastis, Mark Kelso, John Carter, Cruz Cortez and Rodrigo Rojas.
