Paul Attanasio, Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2017 at his home in Galveston, TX. Paul was born in Galveston on August 3, 1927. He graduated from Kirwin High School in 1945. He then went on to the Maritime Academy at Catalina Island, CA and served in the Merchant Marine traveling to ports of call across the Northern Mediterranean. He then joined the Army and served as a T-4 in the occupational forces in Kobe, Japan. After serving, Paul attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Paul married Anna Chenoweth in 1957 and they had two children Cynthia and Paul Jr. He spent his career with the Galveston Wharves and retired after 38 years as the Superintendent of Railroad Operations. Paul was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 787; VFW; Galveston Propeller Club; Serra Club, and past President of the Galveston/Texas City Traffic Club and Port of Galveston Employees Federal Credit Union. In retirement, Paul and Anna always looked forward to spending time with their family and grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Leone Attanasio; his mother, Concetta (Bennici); and brother, Leon Attanasio. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Anna; daughter, Cynthia; son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Tish; grandchildren, Christopher and Mark Attanasio, Lauren Paluska (Mike) and Miles Callis. He is also survived by his sisters Norma Laine (Randall-deceased) and Lena Perry (Bob).
Paul’s family will receive visitors at 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, Feb 2, 2017 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home followed by a vigil service to begin at 7:00 P.M., with Deacon Sam Dell’Olio officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 1:00 P.M. Friday, Feb 3, 2017, with Father Orrin Halespeska officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Attanasio, Mark Attanasio, Randall Laine Jr, Paul Laine, Randall Laine III and Bobby Perry Jr.
