Margaret Dixon Blackburn of Galveston, TX formerly of Versailles, KY; passed from this life on August 4, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Margaret was surrounded by close family and her personal physician as she passed into her eternal life.

Margaret was born October 11, 1924 in Louisville, KY. She lived throughout the state until finally residing in Versailles in 1936. This is where she met the great love of her life and future beloved husband Leslie J Blackburn, Jr. “Ikey”. She and Ikey bought Miller Rasnick Funeral home in 1954. She was a long time member of the Versailles Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. She was a long time employee and retiree of Rand McNally Corporation rising from secretary to Personnel Manager.

She and Ikey enjoyed traveling in their motor home visiting every state or province on the North American continent. They also shared trips to Europe, Israel, and a dream trip through the Panama Canal.

Margaret’s current joy and pastime was watching her large screen TV, listening to audio books, and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived in death by her son Leslie J. Blackburn III and beloved daughter-in-law Esmenia who “continually made her smile”; grandchildren Leslie J Blackburn IV, Thirty Lacy, Ninety Lacy (Jocelyn), Twenty Stephenson (Steve), Suzanne Maxwell (Joe), and Jeremy Ashley (Paula); great-grandchildren Gage and Kayleigh Blackburn, Celeste Lacy, Freedom Stephenson, Tristan Lacy and Joseph Maxwell. She is also survived by sisters Lucinda Dixon Sullivan and Mary Dixon Warren (Harry); nephew William Phelps (Gerri); and dear friend Marlene Davis.
She is preceded in death by Leslie J. Blackburn, Jr. her beloved husband of 67 years, and daughter Beverly Gayle Blackburn.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at The Meridian Retirement Center in Galveston, TX, where she lived for eleven years. Reverend Raymond Pinard will be officiating.

A Memorial Service will be held at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles, KY followed by a graveside service. The date and time is to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to The Salvation Army, 601 51st Street, Galveston, TX 77550; The Women’s Crisis Center, 1802 Broadway, Galveston TX 77550; The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka KA 66675-8517; or a charity of one’s choice.

She was a very sweet lady who was loved by everyone who knew her. She was smart, funny, and beautiful and we adored her. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
