Alicia Valdez Cortez, 82, of Galveston Texas passed away early Monday morning November 27, 2017. She was born on February 17, 1935 in Zaragoza Coahuila, Mexico. She is preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Cortez Sr. and parents German and Anita Valdez.

She is survived by her two sons Nicholas Jr. and Vincent (Meagan) and her daughter Veronica (Christopher Sr.) Pleasant, sister Elvira Rios and brother Alfredo V. Salinas. Leaving to cherish her memories are also her eight grandchildren Ashliee, Evalicia Cortez and Raymond Molina; Christalyne, Devyn and Nicholas Pleasant; Vince Jr. and Noah Cortez and a great grandson Nicholas Pleasant Jr. She will be sadly missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Alicia LOVED to dance Tejano and Mariachi music at family gatherings and she was famously known by her delicious homemade flour tortillas and refried beans. Her all-time favorite hobbies were going to BINGO and gardening in her yard. Alicia was known as the life of the party whenever she went.

She enjoyed driving around and shopping with her best friend, sister Elvira and her favorite niece Lucia De Leon. She made everyone laugh and her BEST precious time spent was with her grandchildren. She loved so many and so many loved Alicia V. Cortez.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Vincent Cortez, Jose Rios Jr., Rogers Ruiz, Armando De Leon, Fernando Galvan and Martin A. Salinas. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Cortez Jr., Nicholas Pleasant Sr., Jose Torres and Vicente Saenz.

Rest in heaven Mother…we all love you.
