Marian Kingstrom Reinhart, born on May 14, 1914, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, just 13 days shy of her 100th birthday. “Mema” was born and raised in Olivia, Minnesota to Swedish-American parents who taught her to love and support the family, to work hard on their farm, and to study hard in her one-room schoolhouse - all done to bring honor and glory to God. The family spent their free hours playing musical instruments and singing, which began a lifelong passion for music.  She graduated Valedictorian in 1932 from Olivia High School and later graduated from the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis in 1936, working afterwards as an Assistant Head Nurse for the Surgical Unit.

In 1938 she came to Galveston to work at the Marine Hospital (later known as the US Public Health Service Hospital). She attended Zion Lutheran Church, where she met her future husband, Harold. He was from a loyal Christian family of Scandinavian parents (who survived the 1900 Storm), and later had two girls and three boys - all very active in the church. Marian became a loving part of their family when she married Harold on June 28, 1942. Together they taught the important values they had inherited to their four children, who have since passed them on to future generations. In addition to caring for her home and family, Marian returned to college to receive her BSN at the UTMB School of Nursing in 1965, and spent the majority of her professional nursing career working as a school nurse throughout the Galveston area. She was devoted to her church activities at Zion and sang with the Galveston College Choir for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold G. Reinhart; parents Andrew and Anna Kingstrom, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughters Jane Gonzalez and husband Jose, and Joanne Meyer and husband Buddy; sons John Reinhart and wife Becky, and Jim Reinhart; sister Dorothy Olson; grandchildren Joe Gonzalez-Reinhart, Jennifer Gonzalez-Reinhart, Joshua Reinhart, Andy Meyer, Stephen Meyer, Joanna White and Julie Meyer; their spouses; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutherhill Ministries, P.O. Box 99, La Grange, Texas 78945-4132.
