Elise Marie Landers

September 4, 1922 — March 11, 2014 




Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Galveston, with Reverend Susan Kennard officiating.


Elise Marie Landers was born in Galveston, Texas, on September 4, 1922. She died on March 11, 2014, at The Meridian, Galveston, Texas.

Elise graduated from Ball High School in 1939. She worked at Todd’s Shipyard Corp. until 1945 when she contracted polio. After a year of rehabilitation, she began work at the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad as a draftsman – the only female draftsman for a number of years. When the Santa Fe left Galveston, Elise began work at the Galveston Wharves. She retired in 1982.

Elise is preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Minnie Tipple Landers, and her sister Alice Lu Landers Hattox. She is survived by niece, Patricia Hattox Minor, and husband James, and several great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, of Delaware, Connecticut and London, England.

Elise is remembered fondly for her positive attitude and happy demeanor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 2216 Ball Street, Galveston, Texas, 77550.
