William Myers Connard, 76, of Galveston, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 3, 2016. William, also known as Willie or Bill, was born on July 17, 1939, in Galveston, TX to George Gorgas Connard and Mabel Holzheuser Connard.
He married the love of his life, Janice Wagner, in 1961. Over the next 5 years, they were blessed with three beautiful children. William was a devoted and loving husband, father and Paw Paw. He loved his family dearly and was always active in everything they did. He most definitely passed on his love of fishing and hunting to his son and grandsons.
His inquisitive nature led him to Rosenberg Library to research whatever topic was being discussed. With all of this knowledge, he was always the champ of Trivial Pursuit. William could fix almost everything, and if he couldn’t, it was another trip back to the library. He was tenacious to say the least. On the fun side, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching all sports, and traveling to various points of interests such as national parks, cruises, casinos and trips with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 54 years, Janice; daughters, Cathy Van Ness and husband Mark of Galveston; Charlotte Chandler and husband Steve of Boerne, TX; and son, Russell Connard of Brenham, TX; brother, Gerald Connard (Christie); sister, Anne Connard Beecher (Bill) of Osage Beach, MO; grandchildren, Shelby Chandler Nelson (Andrew), Lane Chandler, Tara Chandler, Jake Chandler, Libby Van Ness, and Alli Van Ness; aunt, Sarah Holzheuser of Galveston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a vigil at 6:30 p.m., Deacon Sam Dell’Olio officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Orrin Halepeska officiating. The burial will follow the funeral Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
