Vicky Lynn Riley (Sparks), age 69, passed away peacefully at her Galveston home on Sunday, April 18, 2016, after a four-year battle with cancer.

Vicky was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas on December 4, 1946, to RD (Dean) Sparks and Myrtice Grissom. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1965, but had also attended Wheelus High School in Tripoli, Libya and Kermit High School as her father had been working in the oil fields near the area. After school, she had married her high school sweetheart, Mike D. Riley, whose position with the Galveston-based Gal-Tex Corporation took her from Dallas, Chattanooga (TN), Kingsport (TN) and finally back to Galveston. She has resided on the island since 1990.

Vicky was a volunteer, bell ringer, and fundraiser for the Galveston Salvation Army as well as other organizations. Her out-going personality allowed her to gain and build a close circle of friends. Vicky never met a stranger, and her kind heart and warm smile with her sharp laughter brightened everyone’s spirits. She will be very missed.

Predeceased by her father and her husband, Vicky is survived by her mother, Myrtice Grissom, of Mount Pleasant; son, Michael Brian Riley, and his wife Susan, and their daughters Grace and Caroline of Hendersonville, TN; siblings Randi Sparks, Jody Sparks and his wife Stephanie and Susie Gregg and her husband Dennis; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Salvation Army in Galveston, 601 51st Street, 77551, Nevills Chapel Cemetery Fund or Gladewater Cemetery Fund, both located in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Bates, Cooper and Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Nevills Chapel in Mount Pleasant.
