Lee Castro died August 21, 2015. He was born in Houston, Texas, May 10, 1922, at the home of his parents, Librado and Eliza Castro. He attended Sam Houston High School. Lee enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Area. He was a glazer by trade working with glass and mirrors. Several of his designs were placed in Houston restaurants and homes of prominent Houstonians.

Lee was an early supporter of Civil Rights for Latin Americans. He was a member of the League of United Latin Americans, Council 60. He campaigned to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, and political influence of Hispanics.

Lee was very active helping fellow veterans. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and served as Commander of the Jacinto City Post 397 for many years. He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital and was given several awards for the time and effort he contributed to secure the comfort of hospitalized veterans.

In his later years he became PoPo to his six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. They energized his life and he loved each one in a special way.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, daughter Linda Ann, son Robert Lee, and daughter-in-law Linda.

Lee is survived by Ernestine, his wife and dance partner for the past sixty-six years; daughter Carol Jean and husband Eric, son Ralph Joseph and wife Denessa; Grandchildren Joni Childs and husband Bill, Dori Alejandro and husband Saul, Joseph Castro and wife Stephanie, Jared Castro and wife Jessica, Michael Jetty Muehr, and Lee John Muehr; Great grandchildren Steven Chachere, Sara Alejandro, Jessica Alejandro, Marissa Alejandro, Kaitlynn Alejandro, Mikayla Castro, Mackenzie Childers, Aidan Castro, Austin Castro, Olivia Castro, Adalynn Castro, Cassidy Castro, Clinton Castro, Colt Castro, and Cade Castro; Great-great grandchildren Steele Chachere and Josslyn Alejandro. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends who were special to him.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, 2128 Broadway, Galveston, Texas 77550, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with funeral services beginning at 7:00 P.M., with Dr. Ralph Castro officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 1:15 P.M. at Houston National Cemetery.
