Services

Della’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at J Levy & Termini Funeral Home, with Pastor Jim Booth officiating.
 
Visitation will be held prior to service time beginning at 11:00 A.M.
 
Adelaida  P. “Della” Salas 70, returned to His heavenly home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
 
Della was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend, Benito Salas Jr. , on  February 18, 1963 in Galveston, Texas. Della is survived by her husband Benito Salas Jr; her son Benito Salas III, her son Michael and spouse Asheley Salas; her grandchildren Michael Jr., Preston, Brylee, Marin, Stephanie, Christina, Raymond and Seth; her great-grand children Allissa and Ava; her brother  Rudy Pena and sisters Beatrice Reyes and Estella Rodriguez; her step brother Carlos Pena and step sisters Marcy Pena, Christy Gutierrez, Ester Reyes and Ester Cano and her step mother Julia Pena; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Carlos Pena Sr. and Guadalupe Pena; her brother Carlos Pena II (Kino) and her niece Amanda Rodriguez.
 
Della put her love and dedication in to her work at the Original Mexican Café where she had been employed since 1963. She started working as a waitress and helped the owner with his bookkeeping until 1973 when he sold the business. She continued working as a part time waitress and also did all the bookkeeping for the next owner. In 1987 she was promoted to manager by who came to be her life long devoted friend John Bannon. When the restaurant changed hands a third time she continued with  managing the restaurant and the bookkeeping until forced to retire in 2014 due to her illness.
