Ruby Ann Vasquez passed away on December 9, 2013 after a fierce battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Ruby was born September 29, 1964 in Galveston to Louis and Alice Vasquez. A third generation Galvestonian, Ruby attended Ball High and worked for many years at the family restaurant, El Nopalito. Just prior to her illness, she worked at Home Depot as a cashier, greeting everyone with that famous smile. She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed playing Bingo, hosting family gatherings, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

Ruby is preceded in death by her brothers: Rene Vasquez and Louis P. Vasquez, and her grandparents: Luis and Modesta Vasquez and Rosendo and Marcaria Cruz. Left to treasure her memory are her parents: Louis and Alice Vasquez, her daughters: Jessica Vasquez and Priscilla Ortiz; her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Mary Jane and Ygnacio Arrendondo, Irma and Isidro Rodriguez, Sylvia and Narcizo Mejia, Antonia and Candelario Espinosa, Roger and Kim Vasquez, Bobby and Kat Vasquez, and Roland Vasquez; her beloved grandchildren: Marcus Vasquez, Victoria, Jacquelyn and Damian Reyes; good friend Alfredo Ortiz; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.

Visitation will begin Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 5pm with Rosary at 7pm at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home. Funeral services and Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on December 12, 2013 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Gabriel Esquivel, Tony Esquivel, Roy Gonzales Sr., Oscar Venegas, Shaun Vasquez, and Roland ‘Turk’ Peralez.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kindred Hospital for taking care of Ruby during her extended stay. They would also like to thank Ruby’s work family at Home Depot for their support. Words cannot express how much it meant to Ruby to see the loving faces of friends and family who visited her throughout her hospitalization. “If a person gives you his time, he can give you no more precious gift”.
