Cipriana Socorro Ferrel Ortiz passed away peacefully at her home in Galveston, TX on Saturday, August 3, 2013.
Cipriana was born on September 25, 1919 in Concepcion Del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico, raised in Galveston where she and her husband, Manuel, met and married raising four daughters: Maria Heilpern, Virginia Kim, Eva Davila and Rebecca Love.
Cipriana worked at the University of Texas/Galveston where she was an Operating Room Technician for 36 years. She attended Central Baptist Church and was active in the WMU, Sunday School, and VBS. Her hobbies of gardening, sewing, and church volunteering were exceeded only by her talent of making homemade tamales which were legendary to her friends.
Cipriana was predeceased by her husband, Manuel, who died in October, 2002.
Family includes Maria Heilpern, son Jaime Heilpern and wife Elizabeth, San Francisco, CA and sons Zane and Colin; Virginia and Kee W. Kim Houston, sons Kurtis Kim and children Austin and Kendall of Houston, and Vernon Kim, wife Meredith of Frisco TX; Eva Davila and husband Ramon of Santa Fe, TX and Terry Trevino and wife Shelda, girls Marisa and Peyton of Katy TX; Rebecca Ortiz Love and husband, Boyce, of Houston, TX and her children, Anna Piel and husband, Andrew, and girls Elena and Lara of Arlington, TX, and son, Aaron Candler Evans of Hoboken, NJ; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Kurtis Kim, Vernon Kim, Aaron Evans, Terry Trevino, Victor Trevino and Jaime Heilpern.
