After serving in the Air Force in Alaska during the Korean War, he pursued an engineering degree at the University of Texas. He also worked at the Texas Highway Department. He then came to Galveston, where he worked and retired from the Corps of Engineers. His children fondly remember the many times he took them to Astro's baseball game and went fishing. He is also remembered as a great deer hunter. Every one knew that he was a loyal Longhorn football fan. He was generous to all and a good provider to his family.
