Elizabeth Tripp Gilkison Jewell, age 87, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at UTMB Hospital. She was born in Herington, Kansas in 1926. She attended school and graduated from high school there in 1943. She attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence from 1943-1947, majoring in English and Geology.

In 1947, she married D.C. Gilkison and moved to Houston, Texas. Four children were born to that marriage: Margaret Elizabeth Gilkison, Charles Raymond Gilkison, William David Gilkison, and Mary Katherine Gilkison.

"Trippie", as she was called by friends and family, was a wife, mother, and housewife from 1948 to 1969. During those years she was active in nursery work at First Methodist Church, PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League Baseball, and in the Dad's Club as sewing instructor and girls softball coach. She also enjoyed playing golf.
In 1969, she began work as a medical assistant and secretary to Beatrice Welch, MD staying for 7 years; then as secretary at the Battin Clinic for 6 years; and as secretary of the Energy Department of John L. Wortham & Son for 1 year.

In 1984, she married Joseph W. Jewell. She retired and "lived happily ever after".
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph W. Jewell. She is survived by her children Margaret Gilkison, Charles Gilkison and Linda Rounds, Bill and Janie Gilkison, Mary Gilkison and Alan Heald; three granddaughters: Anna Cooper, Sarah Gilkison, and Katie Gilkison and one grandson: David Gilkison.
