Lester George Horner, Sr., age 89, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at UTMB Hospital. He was born in Hyde Park, Vermont on October 11, 1924. At age 19, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and was stationed in Galveston. He was retired from American National Insurance Company, after 20 years of service. He had various hobbies that included photography, dancing and flying for the Civil Air Patrol, which helped locate missing people. He also sang with the American National All Star Chorale for 10 years. He was a long standing member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Men’s Club and was the oldest standing member of the Galveston Noon Optimists Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arkley and Eunice Perry Horner; first wife Roseann Constantine; and son Lester George Horner, Jr., and sister Marylin Wendell.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) Horner; children, Constance Javor(Ken), Christopher Horner and Timothy Michael Horner(Mary); step son Michael S. Mooney(Kristine); grandchildren, Kirsten Stone(Axil De Groot), Austin, Shawn and Morgan Horner, Wade Javor(Nicki) and Jennie Marett(Gary), Erika Johnson, Danielle Mooney and Madison Mooney; great-grandchildren, Addie Stone, Maddie Rose, Tripp and Dakota Marett, Abigail Javor and Breckin Javor, Koen and Greysen Johnson; and very special family friend Micahla Vaccaro.
Visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father E.J. Stein officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mooney, Austin Horner, Shawn Horner, Gary Marett, Morgan Horner and Wade Javor. Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Pucciarello, Frank Guisti, James Milligan, Bobby Fullen, Don Poole, Glenn Brouillard and Jack Williams.
