Cecil Lewis Garey, “C.L.”, 74, of Crystal Beach, Texas passed away April 27, 2013 in his home surrounded by loving family. C.L. was born February 16, 1939 and raised in Donna, Texas. With the intention of making a career as a coach, C.L. attended the University of Corpus Christi and there the Lord inspired him to spread His word as a minister. After marrying Shirley Ann Wingfield of Austin, Texas on June 10, 1960 C.L. began working as a traveling preacher. C.L. and Shirley gave birth to their four children, Leslie Anne, Karen, Lewis, and Stephen.
C.L. is remembered as a generous man and even received an honor for his support to the Texas Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund made possible by a small business he started. C.L volunteered for the Three Rivers Fire Department as well as the Crystal Beach Fire Department. Much joy was brought to C.L. in being founder and supporter of the House of Hope in Madisonville, Texas and the House of Disciples in High Island, both organizations offering a helping hand to those less fortunate. C.L. was an avid hunter that also enjoyed fishing, dancing, golfing, and supporting his favorite college football team, The University of Texas Longhorns.
C.L. is preceded by his parents, Cecil and Christine Garey, father-in-law Leslie Z. Wingfield, and beloved son Cecil Lewis Garey, III. C.L. is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Garey, sister, Shirley Ann Louther and husband Fred, mother-in-law Ann Wingfield, sister-in-law, Brenda and husband Dick Cole, daughter, Leslie Anne Richards and husband Larry, daughter, Karen Huegler and husband Ronnie Sr., son Stephen Garey and Valarie Horton, grandchildren Ronnie Huegler Jr., Krista Rodriguez and husband Anthony, Sean Huegler, Ashley Allen, John Garey, and Robert Garey, great granddaughter Olivia Rodriguez, and honorary family Mike and Tracy Barnett, Kellie Comeaux.
